Right now one of my good friends is on a date. I find this intriguing as I have not dated in um 5 decades (ok 6 or 7 years but like in DOG years...) What do these crazy kids do now on dates? What do people wear? The first date I had with my husband was at Starbucks and the second we took a ride down to ski country in April. More like LL Bean boots and barn coats. Nothing that said Jimmy Choo's and Cosmos. After that it seemed to all fall into place: movies, hanging out with friends and oh yeah four months later getting engaged. I do make an effort on "date nights" now (read night out without the dogs slobbering on you) to spruce it up a little but most of the time we end up at the neighborhood pub drinking Irish beer and munching on a snack. Nothing that makes a dent in my make up bag. He has seen me in heels about twice a year when we have a wedding to go to. His most frequent comment on my outfits "that looks comfy". Do I worry we are in a tightening belt of domestic blah? No. We both seem happy and not overly worried about the lack of spruced up evenings out. He is a very happy camper to be in the heart of the home. My girlfriends always get me out to a hip restaurant or whatkindoftroublecanwegetintonight night out so it all works out well.
I am hoping the date for my friend is a success. She says she wants someone to "hang out with" "go to movies" and have nice stay in evenings. I smile because I know just what she means....

  1. The thought of dating freaks me out on one side but excites me on the other. I'll get there someday!
