Today started out normal enough. Me: cranky. Coffee: cold. Work: piled up.
Fast forward a few hours and the power goes out at work. We have been having power urges so it seemed like a blip. Then we look down out the wondow (I am on the 17th floor) and see FIRETRUCKS! YELLO TAPE! We get told over the building speaker EXIT THE BUILDING CALMLY. WE REPEAT GATHER YOUR BELONGINGS AND CALMLY EXIT THE BUILDING .
Yes our transformer had exploded. We walked silently down the stairs. All 17 floors (plus 3 more to get to ground exit) no one saying anything. I know going through my minnd was of course 9/11. Is this what people felt like? Slightly inconvienced but resigned to get down there probably only to hear you have to climb back up.
By the time I got to the bottom my legs were shaking. Speaking to a few co workers the same thing was happening. A lot of walking and the stress. Once you made it out the building we were left standing in the cold and rain wondering what if...what if...
We left shortly after.
I met my friends for lunch and hugged them and kissed thier babies. Because I could.

  1. I heard about that! I was thinking darn, they get to leave early...I forgot you were on the 17th! I would have been feeling the same exact way!
