Yesterday was a day of being poked and prodded. No it wasn't a romantic evening with Mr PBS but a slew of Dr's appointments.
If I have to say one good thing about them - you kow, besides the lifesaving factor -it's that I get to read. I am one of those people who drags a book with me everywhere. One is always nestled in my purse (hence I am known as "the big purse lady") ready for action. Another thing is I have learned the fine art of napping at the Dr's. My impatience has always been a thorn in my side. I hate lines. I hate dilly dallying in other people (myself, I am on the professional side of dilly dallying.) All that changed when I went through my bout of cancer. It's sort of like karma tapping you on the shoulder and saying "chill...or else." While I have my moments I have learned after hours and hours (I swear I have sat there seeing children move from childhood to puberty) of sitting at the dr's office how to make the time work for me. And quite frankly when you have had surgery removing some major organs and are limping around with a catheter in resitance is futile. So I learned to nap. Once in the examination room where I will spend the next hour or so waiting I lean back and simply close my eyes. The examination table to me becomes a soft down mattress and I am out like a light. The amusing part of this is when Dr Uptight walks in and has to WAKE YOU. hee hee. Ah yes. Years of medical school to wake the cranky lady passed out in your office.
Nice.
Of course as revenge they order massive blood work and you find yourself at the lab at 6:30 freakin AM getting needles plunged into your oh so delicate veins - after having to fast no less - and brusied arms like you have been hovering in the alley shooting heroin all night.
OMG! Brilliant!!! Taking naps at the doctor's office is an awesome idea!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy that we are booked for next week!
BTW, have you read Dear John by Nicholas Sparks?
I have not read Dear John. Is it good?
