Christmas

One word and boy a rush of feelings come swirling up. I myself am a Christmas fanatic. You know, like there are those Disney cult like followers? Well Christmas is my weakness, my joy, my hope. My husband comes from a family that for religious reasons just didn't really place an importance on the holiday. He was, in his early years, raised catholic. However until he met yours truly had kept a polite distance from Xmas. I warned him. I coached him. I prepared him in every way I could. The moment he walked into my apartment and saw it in all it's 750 square feet of some freakishly decorated Christmas Vacation splendor he finally understood. To his credit the sigh, if he did sigh, was internal. He was smitten so he took the odd endearing quirks in stride. Note: at this point we were already engaged so really there wasn't too much turning back though there was a falter when he caught me watching the 24 hours of A Christmas Story all bleary eyed 20 hours into it. The next year he announced setting up the tree was his duty. Fine. Then it was he wouldn't mind being in charge of the ornaments also, you know to free my time up to bake "cookies and stuff". Ok. Once before he got home from work I rearranged a few of the ornaments. He walked in. Looking at the tree and tilting his head sideways he said "You moved some." Wow he's a bloodhound I thought. So on the defensive I said "Well Rudolph was too far away from Santa and that just isn't right-he would never leave Santa now." The husband then gets all giddy in his pants. "No No No, they looked FINE. Let me just rework this and see if I can fix it." It's taken a few years but we have come to the finally understanding HE does the tree and lights, I do the ornaments. We never have a star or an angel on the tree as I can't even fathom that battle.
Anyway, I don't have a large family and nether does he. But little by little we have worked at creating our own traditions that fit us. So go out and get a Christmas Pickle and start your own.
Happy Holidays!!!

**There is much more to come on my holiday thoughts so stay tuned!
