One of the things I love about my husband is we are both music geeks. I don't mean we know every little indie band from '81 up to today's date. No, I am a music geek that is stuck in my post punk early 80's love of music. I was the girl that used to be dressed like the Beat girl. My favorite movie were Gregory's Girl and Times Square.

I guess I always love music. My mother spent Saturday's cleaning the house and day dreaming with her Rod Mckuen records on. I was the youngest of a sister and a gaggle (7) of steps. I followed their lead sometimes for good (Rolling Stones) sometimes for not so good (Billy Don't Be a Hero). So for awhile I thought The Defranco family was sooo cool. Thenit was Sean Cassidy and Leif Garret (pre heroin 70's cute boy). Quickly my taste changed. Maybe it was the late nights staying up watching Don Kirshner's Rock Concert and getting up early watching American Bandstand (saturday's 11am). I did an about face late 70's became obsessed with The Beatles. So while my fellow 7th/8th graders were diggin Van Halen w/ David Lee Roth, Journey, Rush - or disco (yes, really) I was in a 60's music world. I had a heck of a time finding a record by The Doors - they were sooo not cool then. So in my mind something NOT being cool made it all the more cooler.
Then John Lennon died. My sister drove me to the vigil that was taking place in our city. I cried, I sobbed but knew I couldn't look back. So I embraced the punk revolution. Well post punk. Sid Vicious was gone and humor was inching it's way into the music. Gradually my hair spiked a little, a little color was added. I went to concerts that people laughed at - I paid $2 to see REM as an opening band. Snuck in to see The Police in a small bar. Little known fact my friend and I "interviewed" Bono in the winter of 1982. I met David Bowie (bad teeth, weird eyes). Handled an akward drug filled (them) evening with the Psychedelic Furs. Traded Hein Hoven for a guitar pick from the Stray Cats for one of my James Dean buttons. I had fun.

Now I am older. My music taste seems nerdy. I still will blast The Clash but yet Abba is on my Ipod. I much more liberal with my tastes. Country is a preset station (BTW Nashville, very cool city). My hair is blonde and in a kind of bob no longer a red mohawk that says "Don't hire me!". I work in a bank. I crunch numbers. I go to lunch with "the girls". I buy shoes that are fun not funky. I just broke my T-shirt with cute sayings habit. My friend's have babies, mortgages, and 12 hour work days. I have a 401K and stock options. Tivo makes me beam. We sometimes have to call plumbers and have to shop for appliances. But T. and I always go through our CD's and try to find the best one to listen to for the morning drive. We reluctantly have semi merged our music collections and because we are music geeks it will take another five years to make the full transition.
