It occured to me this morning that the summer is in full swing (i know, it took you this long?)
But here we are. I was trying to think back on all the summers growing up. Running in the grass and the games. Swimming until you were so exhausted you could barely get out of the pool (MARCO! POLO!) and then back in again. I remember the Fourth of July parades our neighborhood had. All our little bikes dressed up in red white and blue and us proudly in a line going up and down the street. My Mom being a teacher was always setting up events for the kids. We had peanut hunts, costume parties, and Christmas in July. She also made sure I was up early and with her on the porch both with our books (my choice was probably the Little House series which I reread a thousand times or a good story about a young girl and her horse). To this day one of the best pleasures in life I can think of is getting up early with a cup of coffee and sitting outside with a good book. A few times during the summer we would go on "adventure" - that meant for a drive to the country. We would find old school houses, streams filled with beautiful rocks for the garden and (hopefully) an ice cream stand. As I got older my summers started to revolve around horses. Lessons and horse shows. I spent many hot sticky summers trying to get the nerve to jump the big jumps and learn "emergency dismounts" (aka falling off gracefully). I lived breathed and drempt about horses. Magically one summer there was one all for me! Being the graceful girl I am I fell off and broke my wrist a month after getting him.
I hope your summers have wonderful memories. Now go get that sunblock!
